On Friday, June 11, the delayed Euro 2020 kicks off with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal looking to successfully defend the title they won in 2016 in France.

Romelu Lukaku
The world’s highest-ranked team, Belgium, are undoubtedly the leading contenders to lift a first major competition, three years after finishing as the third-best team in the World in Russia. The hopes of the entire Belgium population will rest on the form and fitness of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard, but the team will need Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku to score the goals.
Romelu made his senior debut at the age of16 for Belgian side Anderlecht, now 28, the former Manchester United striker is in the best form of his life, coming from the back of a successful season with Inter Milan where he scored 30 goals across all competitions for the Serie A champions, including 24 in their League title run. The big striker is currently Belgium’s record goal-scorer with 60 goals in 93 matches, including 4 goals at the last World Cup and seven in just 5 games in Euro qualifying, and Nigerian betting sites are bound to keep their watchful eye on the Belgian star.
Harry Kane
The England striker’s build-up to Euro 2020 has been overshadowed by the rumour of his possible summer departure from Tottenham Hotspurs after he showed in April that it might be the right time for him to dump the North London club. However, Kane, 27, will need to put all of that behind him to focus on Euro 2020 as he gets set to lead Gareth Southgate’s frontline.
The England striker who was top goalscorer at the 2018 FIFA World Cup with six goals in Russia, went on to score 12 goals in the Euro qualifying series and was the top goalscorer in the League in the recently concluded season with 23 goals, despite playing in a poor Spurs side.
Looking at the quality of players around him creating the goal-scoring chances, it could be another prolific competition for Kane this summer.
Karim Benzema
The return of Karim Benzema to the France National team was great news, the Real Madrid forward ending five and a half years without international football. The striker had not played for his nation since a 2015 blackmail scandal over a sex tape involving Mathieu Valbuena broke.
Benzema’s hopes of a recall appeared to recede earlier in the year when French prosecutors disclosed they had decided to send the forward and four others for trial. However, France head coach Didier Deschamps could no longer ignore the form of Benzema after a campaign in which he netted 30 times for his club. His addition to the French squad strengthens an already fearsome France team.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Now 36, this could be Ronaldo’s penultimate appearance at a major international competition. Ronaldo’s role in Portugal’s triumph at Euro 2016 was limited — scoring just three goals, including the opening goal in the semi-final match against Wales, and he came off due to injury in the first half of the final encounter against France.
The importance of Ronaldo to Portugal may not be what it once was, considering the wealth of talent the team has. However, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is still coming off a campaign in which he netted 36 times for Juventus, and the Portugal captain is now targeting the all-time international scoring record of 109 currently held by Iran Legend Ali Daei — Currently, Cristiano Ronaldo is only six goals shy of that figure.
Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski, despite being 32, is at the peak of his career and powers, coming from the back of breaking Gerd Mueller’s record for the most goals in a German Bundesliga campaign as he scored 41 goals in 29 matches for Bayern Munich.
Had the prestigious Ballon d’Or been awarded in 2020, the prolific striker would have been a worthy winner of the top prize. Lewandowski’s chances of winning the award this year probably depend on his performance at the Euro 2020 for Poland, and he has not done well at recent tournaments — the striker scored just once at the Euro’s in 2016 and not at all as his nation limped out of the last FIFA World Cup in the group stage.
